What effects work with what amp….please let me know so other might benefit!
If you are like me you will always be looking for that particular tone or sound from your amp. If you are really lucky it will just be produced by your amp! However even if that is the case it’s rare that all the sounds/tone you require will be produced by your amp! For example Fender Hot Rod deluxe’s produce a great clean sound at moderate volumes……breaks up too quickly for me, but that’s another story! But I’ve not heard many people say they like the drive tone’s…..they are a bit woolly and just not that great. However put a compressor at the front end (I’ve used a modified Boss and a Daphon) and things tighten up, not perfect but OK. Try a RAT and whooo, put it in the effects loop and it is sonic heaven…..for me!!!! Put that same RAT in front of a Marshall TSL602 and it’s like someone scrapping their nails down a black board……….. to my ears!
I would love t know what works with what, it would save a lot of hassle, or do we just like the pain….would we listen.
A quick one to leave you with, it is easy to turn our noses up at lower priced effects but Daphon surprised me the Compressor and the Overdrive (mine is a Monte Allums modded version) are both brilliant. I bought a DHA hand made twin tube driven two channel overdrive, too me it sounded like a fart!!!! Loose, not musical I couldn’t find a sweet spot……maybe it was just me, BUT it was on EBay within a week!
